Who can come to Rose of Durham?
To take part in counselling and other programs at Rose of Durham female clients must be 25 years of age or younger and male clients must be 30 years of age or younger. You will meet with a counsellor who will tell you about the services offered at Rose of Durham availabel to you. The counsellor will also tell you how to get in touch with other services offered in the community that you might need.
When do young women and men become involved with Rose of Durham?
Anytime during a pregnancy, or when they are already young parents.
How much do the services at Rose of Durham cost?
There is no cost for any of the services offered by Rose of Durham.
What are the hours at Rose of Durham?
Rose of Durham is open 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
Is there a waiting list for service?
No, you can usually see a counsellor within a week of calling the agency.
Does Rose of Durham offer services for young fathers?
Yes, young fathers can receive individual counselling from a male counsellor, and may attend some parenting groups offered at Rose of Durham (such as 'What a Difference a Dad Makes, and B2B), they often attend prenatal classes as a 'coach'. In addition, Rose of Durham has two social programs for young mothers and fathers to attend together, Parents Club (held every Friday afternoon), and Family Day (held the third Saturday of every month).
Should I bring anyone else with me to Rose of Durham?
If you would like to bring a friend, parent or other relative with you for your first counselling appointment, you may. The counsellor will meet with you, separately, first and then your friend/relative may join you. For prenatal classes, you may bring a partner/coach.
I just want to attend drop-in programs. Is that okay?
Rose of Durham has much to offer (prenatal, school, individual support, parenting groups, workshops) We support the client's decision to attend (or not attend) what they choose. At intake, you can discuss your needs with your counsellor. But all young parents who use any service at the Rose must have an active counsellor.
